What to Wear on Valentine’s Day

Even before I was dating my now husband, I’ve always enjoyed Valentine’s Day, especially dressing for the holiday. You don’t have to go overboard with pinks and reds, but you shouldn’t be afraid of doing so either. Life is more fun when you have fun with your outfit!

You should be able to choose an outfit from what you already own in your closet for Valentine’s Day. I’m going to go over three different levels of Valentine’s day outfits and give tips as to what I think you can look for to put together your own ensemble.

I remember one year, both Joe and I had to work Valentine’s day evening, so we went out to a nice breakfast spot and celebrated there. It was casual, but still lovely and a wonderful way to spend time together. If you have a casual Valentine’s Day date, or you don’t have anything in particular going on but still want to dress for the day, I suggest adding a subtle color and accents to what you’d normally wear. I chose this light pink oxford and made it extra feminine by pairing it with a floral silk scarf. Of course curls are a very romantic style for your hair.

Most Valentine’s Day dates may fall into this category as they may not be too casual, but also not formal. I think a dress is always the way to go for these occasions, and pops of color like my pink belt and purse tie the Valentine’s Day look into this versatile, striped dress. Look for a good base dress and add feminine details from there.

Formal

Joe and I have gone to the symphony on more than one occasion for our Valentine’s Day date. Events such as the symphony, a play,  or a fancy restaurant may call for an outfit a little more formal than a regular dress. While most ladies are fans of the “little black dress”, I’d much rather wear color (especially in the dull winter). This red dress is a perfect Valentine’s Day look for a formal event, but I think a gold dress would look gorgeous as well.
