Watches have always been in style, but they’ve definitely made more of a comeback the past few years as far as retailers coming out with more options available as ever. I’ve also been a fan of wearing a watch as it is both functional and stylish. I’m giving you my reasons for adding a watch to your collection or wearing yours more often.
Reasons to Wear a Watch
Keeping track of time: As obvious as this sounds, watches are so convenient for keeping your day on schedule. Sadly, many people opt out of wearing a watch because they rely on their phone for the time, whereas it’s a lot easier to take a peek at your wrist.
Being polite: We all have busy schedules and many times we have only an allotted time to spend with someone. It comes off as rude if you pull out your phone during a conversation to look at the time. It’s much more polite and inconspicuous to check your watch. I like to pretend I’m fiddling with the positioning of my watch when I’m really just finding out how much more time I have with someone.
Maturity Factor: You rarely see children wearing watches (unless they’re the fun rubber ones) because real adults wear watches. It should become a staple item in your wardrobe as your grow older. Unless you’re wearing a fitness watch, opt for analog over digital.
Types of Watches
There are many different types of watches but I’ll go over the four types I use most (L-R):
Boyfriend: The face on a boyfriend watch is oversized, and while it’s trendy, I believe this style is here to stay. Mine is tortoiseshell, but depending on the metal this is a very versatile item but would err on the casual side.
Everyday: I love my simple, leather watch for everyday use, but any type where you can swap out the band keeps it interesting. Timex is a great watch to own because you can find straps for it pretty much anywhere.
Dressy: This type of watch you could wear to a formal event. It should have a metal band and a small face. Watches with formal wear give an understated elegance and maturity to any look.
Fun: While my “fun” watch may not be too crazy, I believe it’s great to have a watch that’s a little different than the rest of your collection. I love the bright blue band on this one while the face of it keeps it classy.
Brands to Watch For
Timex is the best for changing out straps. It’s a style that will never grow old, and you can find great straps for it at J Crew and Brooks Brothers.
Kate Spade has both fun watches and sleek options for more formal events. They do a wonderful job at keeping it classy in a unique way.
Fossil is my all time favorite watch brand as I believe they are well made (they even make watches for Michael Kors). Tip: Fossil outlets carry watches straight from the Fossil stores, so if you wait a little while you can get very discounted watches that are the same great quality.
Do you wear a watch regularly? Do you wear a watch more for style or functionality?

March 23, 2015 at 11:36 am (8 years ago)I have a running watch I’ve used since high school, but I’ve been debating on a grown up watch for so long because I can’t decide on which kind. This post was really helpful though – thank you!

March 23, 2015 at 7:29 pm (8 years ago)Love your Fossil watches. I actually just got a cute one on Hautelook with multiple thin leather straps which makes it look they wrap around the wrist a few times. I like fossil because they have clean lines and are easy to read. I’ve just gotten back into wearing watches again as I was tired of always checking my phone. They are a fashion statement. Love your style!

March 24, 2015 at 6:45 pm (8 years ago)I’m not quite sure! I got it at the outlet awhile ago. I’d try the Georgia line for similar options: http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryView?catalogId=25005&DM_PersistentCookieCreated=true&parent_category_rn=331098&categoryId=334084&langId=-1&departmentCategoryId=331097&storeId=12052&ddkey=http%3AResolveCategoryIdentifier

March 25, 2015 at 4:05 am (8 years ago)Your watch by Fossil is really cute. I like this brand because they make beatiful watches with really affordable prices. I wear a watch by Roberto Cavalli during the day that is really classy but I’m looking to some watches more sporty. I’ve seen those of U.S polo assn. Do you recommend them?
