Some of the most important pieces in a closet are the versatile classics that are in there for the long haul. A navy cable-knit crew sweater is a staple for any wardrobe as it’s great on its own or layering over collared shirts. The Drifter Sweater from Land’s End is a favorite of mine because of the monogram. I love that it’s on the sleeve – it’s very old school preppy that way. My sweater is an XS-Petite, and while I’m not normally petite, I wanted to make sure the sleeves were shorter so when I layered, the sleeve of the inside shirt would be visible. I have this sweater in both radiant navy and blue heathered marl, but there’s actually 20 different color options between the heathered versions and regular.

I agree with you that some of the more important pieces of clothes are the classics. They can go with pretty much any outfit combination!
