I first saw the object at my friend Ravae’s house. I had no clue what it was but it sat by the door and looked vintage. When she explained it to me, I knew I had to get one!
The boot bug, or boot jack, is something I only found out about maybe 4-5 years ago, but I wish I had used one my whole life. I truly cannot believe this isn’t a staple in every home that experiences rain and snow. It has made our lives so much easier because we aren’t struggling with taking our boots off.

We’ve all had difficulty taking boots off when coming inside at one point or another. Stepping on the heel of the other one, shifting side to side, tugging as hard as we can, unlacing, shaking it off, etc., are all ways we’ve found to slip our boots off. This thing takes all of that away and creates a simple solution to the problem. Simply step onto the bug’s body, put your opposite heel in the antennas and pull away.

This isn’t something you find in stores very often, and the ones available on Amazon are all really lightweight. I recommend Etsy to find them both here and here. There’s also this $18 cast iron one on the online gift shop for Monticello (yes, Thomas Jefferson’s home…) There are more styles than just bugs on Etsy, although I’m partial to it. I found mine at an antique store for $15, but I probably wouldn’t have known what it was if I hadn’t seen it before. It’s sat by my door ever since and continues to impress every guest that asks me about it.
Whether you wear bean boots, rain boots, cowboy boots, snow boots, etc., this is a product I want to share with you to make your life easier. There are no affiliate links or sponsorships, just the desire to share my tips with you!
