I never thought I could pull off white cords during the winter until last year when I began to see them pop up, more and more. I picked up a pair this past fall at the Ralph Lauren Factory, and have found they are very easy to style and look fresh during the colder months.
If you want to wear white pants during the winter, I highly suggest cords over jeans. The trick to pulling them off is wearing them as a thicker material with a texture as opposed to something you would wear during the spring/summer.
Boots will definitely play a part in “winterizing” the white (or off white) cords.
Layering, especially with a thick heavy sweater, is the easiest way to keep your pants from emulating a spring/summer look.
White on white (or again, off white/cream) CAN be done, but be careful to make sure all the items used are strictly winter items. I wore a heavy fisherman’s sweater with these cords, and paired it with boots, a peacoat, and a larger belt in order to pull off the white on white look.
I originally tried styling these cords with a navy and white striped turtleneck, but it made the entire look seem more nautical and a little out of place for winter. Stripes can be done with the pant (such as a sweater with thick stripes), but be mindful of how it affects the style of the whole look.
The above are all my own opinions on how to style white cords, however, you don’t need to follow my rules if you have a different style. White cords can look “high fashion” or even edgy when paired with different items, I’m just a little more conservative in that area. 😉
