Spring is a wonderful time to layer because you can use less layers and brighter colors. I’m sharing my three favorite ways to layer below, but first a few general tips to brush up our layering skills:
- Vary in fabric, weight, and texture. You’ll seldom want multiple layers of the same type of clothing. Make sure you’re changing things up and throwing in different items, such as a chambray shirt under a sweater under a puffer vest.
- Layer from lightest to heaviest. The fabric closest to your body should fit a little snugger and be lighter weight than the rest of your layers. This will ensure proportion and avoid any sloppiness.
- Show those layers. If you can’t see a layer, then you’re only adding unnecessary bulk to your outfit. Make sure some of each layer is showing.
My favorite way to layer is with my button down shirts and bright sweaters. It makes a great transition from colder temps to Spring when I can layer with my pastels.
Another way I love to layer is a button down shirt over a dress. It causes you to be creative and experiment with different shirts and dresses you haven’t worn together before. Plus, this look comes off as both polished and fashion-forward.
Lastly, I love blazers, which are perfect for spring weather when your heavy winter coat is no longer needed. Who doesn’t love Princess Kate’s use of bright pants, beautiful silk scarf, and classic navy blazer?
