Keeping It Lady-Like

Today I’m collaborating with one of my favorite instagrammers – @HamptonIvy. She has such an elegant, timeless style that inspires me to use classic pieces in my own wardrobe. Who better than to collaborate with on a post about dressing like a lady?

While having an overall classic look is great, making your outfit extra lady-like shouldn’t be just reserved for brunches, bridal showers, etc. I love dressing up for church on Sundays, so I use those days to normally wear a dress or skirt and really add in feminine details I wouldn’t normally wear altogether throughout the week. Here are my rules for dressing lady-like:

1. Keep it classy. Modesty is the key, so be mindful of whether you’re showing too much skin to avoid feeling uncomfortable or having to worry about pulling your shirt up or tugging at your skirt. A good rule of thumb for skirts and dresses is a little bit below your fingertip length if your hands are by your side.

2. Play with feminine details. Use your lady-like outfits to pull out all stops and wear the pretty silk scarf that rarely gets worn or the dainty handbag that doesn’t cut it for your everyday use. There’s no jewelry classier than pearls so make sure to add those in as the final touch.

3. Think polished, never sloppy. Nothing can ruin an outfit than wrinkles and stains, so examine the clothing before wear to make sure it’s ironed and clean. It’s also a good idea to get certain items tailored to achieve the lady-like look. Tailoring doesn’t have to be expensive, and usually you can find a well priced tailor in a dry cleaners.
