Every fall I find myself gravitating towards the collegiate inspired style. Rugby Ralph Lauren (2004-2013) was a brand that embodied this look perfectly, and I picked up many pieces while it was around that I still wear and treasure. It’s still easy to get that Ivy-League style that mixes the academia inspired pieces with items that are less fussy for the perfect on-campus look.
For this outfit I wanted to bring a more casual approach to the collegiate look with this varsity-style sweatshirt (I’m wearing a boy’s medium) layered over an oxford cloth button down. My hat has an old english letter R on it, and I completed the look with fringe loafers that I’ve had for over 4 years and are still my most comfortable shoe. This vintage-inspired Dooney & Bourke crossbody bag polishes off the look. My favorite piece in the entire look does not show up well in the photograph, but it’s my grandmother’s 1948 class ring. Sadly I have never met her, but her style inspires me today.
Collegiate style includes, but is not limited to:
- rugby stripes
- old english (or gothic) letters on clothing
- tweed
- blazers
- loafers
- varsity letters
- tie material
- fair isle
- cricket sweaters
- plaid
- anything borrowed from when your parents (or grandparents) were in school
